    Mental Health Supports for Doctors and Medical Students

    A new resource has been released by Drs4Drs to help support the mental health of medical practitioners and medical students.

    Drs4Drs Support Service offers free, confidential tele-health mental health services 24/7, every day of the year.

    Accessing Drs4Drs Support Service is simple. Doctors and medical students can call 1300 374 377 (1300 DR4 DRS) or visit Drs4Drs.com.au - a national one stop shop for wellness and support resources for the medical profession.

    Members provide valuable feedback and insight and act as a sounding board for new programs and services. Members are eligible to nominate for election to the Board and to vote at AGMs.

    National Immunisation Program Changes - 1 July 2020

    From 1 July 2020, there are a number of changes to the National Immunisation Program coming into effect. These changes include:

    • Introduction of meningococcal B vaccination and changes to meningococcal ACWY vaccination
    • Hepatitis A vaccination schedule points for ATSI children in NT, QLD, SA and WA will change in consideration of the introduction of the meningococcal B vaccine
    • Pneumococcal vaccination schedule will change to reflect the current best clinical evidence in preventing pneumococcal disease in adults and in people with conditions that increase their risk of disease

    Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

    Bowel cancer is Australia's second deadliest cancer and claims the lives of 103 Australian's every week, but it's one of the most treatable types of cancer if found early.

    The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) invites eligible people starting at age 50 and continuing to age 74 (without symptoms) to screen for bowel cancer using a free, simple at home test. AIHW participation data (2018) recently published for WA shows kit return for eligible patients aged 50 - 74 was only 43.8%.

    The Drug and Alcohol Clinical Advisory Service (DACAS) is a specialist telephone consultancy service that provides clinical advice on all issues relating to patient management of alcohol and other drug (AOD) use.

    This service is provided by experienced addiction medicine specialists and is available at no charge to all health professionals in Western Australia including GPs, public and private hospital emergency physicians and other health professionals.
