The Northern Goldfields Youth Forum are now incorporated into the quarterly Northern Goldfields Interagency Meetings, with the aim of improving the coordination of youth services in the region.

The Northern Goldfields Youth Forums is to provide a single platform enabling Services, Agencies, Departments and Funding Bodies to agree on a consensus approach to support youth in the Northern Goldfields.

This meeting will be based on the belief that those who are affected by a decision have a right to be involved in the decision-making process and to help build capacity and encourage the voice of youth.

NOTE: 15 January 2020, Centrecare Inc - Goldfields took over facilitating the Northern Goldfields Interagency Meetings.

  • Camp Kulin

    The Shire of Kulin's Camp Kulin program has gained State, National and International attention as one of the leading early intervention and prevention programs of its kind. Camp Kulin provides general camps open to any child in Western Australia and offers scholarship camps working with children affected by childhood trauma.

    In 2016/7 after a number of suicides from the Leonora community, Belinda Lay of the Esperance CWA recognised that evidence informs us the effect of these events on young children is quite devastating with long term consequences.  

    The CWA identified Camp Kulin as a place for youth to address their feelings and build resilience and the group took action to raise funds by cutting and selling firewood to the Esperance community to sponsor two  recently bereaved Leonora youths to the camp.

    They have repeated their efforts in 2018 and have provided funding for another six places at the Camp for youth from Leonora. 

    This generosity has been warmly embraced by the Leonora Community and as a result, Leonora Youth Forum Members have created a sub-committee to further support places at the camp. This committee will oversee further community fund raising and the selection process of children from Leonora to attend, with an intention of providing access to this experience a "Rite of Passage" for youth in the remote communities.

  • Managing Aggressive Behaviours

    Dr Roland Main, Area Director of WACHS Mental Health, presented to the Lenora Youth Forum on 16 May 2018 a discussion on managing behaviorally disturbed people in remote settings and towns. The presentation outlined the objectives of recognising the problem, being prepared and engaging the principles of verbal de-escalation.
