I'm calling you today to ask you a few questions on after hours care to help us understand the after hours care available in your region, understand service needs and to help inform future commissioning opportunities. As you answer, I will input your responses online.
What is after hours care?
As much as possible, patients should be encouraged and supported to receive care from their regular GP. However, when their regular GP or practice is not available, there are a number of providers across Western Australia who provide a range of services outside of normal business hours. These after hours services provide much needed care in the most appropriate setting for people whose condition, while not an emergency, is urgent and shouldn’t wait until the next day to be treated.
About 1800-call-a-doc
1800 Call A Doc is available to residents and visitors in some areas of the WA’s Great Southern, Wheatbelt, South West, Midwest, Goldfields and Pilbara regions when they need urgent access a doctor after hours, on weekends and on public holidays. The service can provide advice, diagnosis, treatment and prescriptions for a range of conditions including fever, vomiting, dehydration, cold and flu, pain and infections.
Please submit all responses by COB Monday 21 September.
