Glass Jar Australia are thrilled to officially launch their Leonora site!!! Allowing them to continue to work towards Closing the Gap in school competition for Aboriginal girls across the state!
Leonora is the first program based in Goldfields, located 833km northeast of Perth and will target up to 35 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls from Year’s 4-10 at Leonora District High School. It’s fantastic to see Shooting Stars open its first program in Western Australia’s Goldfields!
This site is generously supported by a number of financial and community contributors that helped to get the site off the ground. The Gold Fields Australia Foundation, St Barbara Ltd, Saracen Limited and contractor, Rock on Ground have committed to support the Shooting Stars program over the next three years.
The partnerships have played a key role in establishing the Leonora site have already seen a sustainable impact for the girls attendance. This unique group of companies and this collaborative approach aligned with seed funding support from government and the alignment of the Leonora District High School has created a force for social and educational change in the community.
Most importantly the girls have jumped fully into the program. They have named their site the Leonora Lightning, a name reflective of a powerful and strong force of nature, which is what our Program encourages the young women to be. Their locally designed dress was also unveiled at the launch, a group project amongst the participants, with the colours representative of the rich colours found in Leonora, with the earthy reds and rich blues of the sky meeting together.
