Purpose
The Goldfields Consumer Engagement page is designed to support and reinforce the community engagement activities currently being undertaken in this region, including the Northern Goldfields Interagency meeting and the Youth Forum meetings.
Through these meetings participating organisations are committed to facilitating joint initiatives that help strengthen the community and improve the coordination of services in the region. It is recognised that Community, Local, State and Non-Government organisations input into discussion topics and initiatives is essential for strengthening the community and improving service coordination.
Objective

R u ok? Leonora has a Blue Tree
almost 3 years agoLocal stakeholders and the Shire of Leonora came together recently to paint a designated tree blue in the town of Leonora, Northern Goldfields, prompting locals to talk about mental health and ask: “r u ok?”. Norma Heaton from HOPE Community Services has a vision to paint trees blue along the Northern Goldfield highway, from Kalgoorlie to Laverton. This project has touched Norma personally due to lived experience.

Shooting Stars Good News - Leonora Officially Launched
about 3 years agoGlass Jar Australia are thrilled to officially launch their Leonora site!!! Allowing them to continue to work towards Closing the Gap in school competition for Aboriginal girls across the state!
Leonora is the first program based in Goldfields, located 833km northeast of Perth and will target up to 35 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls from Year’s 4-10 at Leonora District High School. It’s fantastic to see Shooting Stars open its first program in Western Australia’s Goldfields!

Grow Local Expansion 2019
over 3 years agoWhat is Grow Local?
Grow Local was developed by WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) in 2017 in response to difficulties in recruiting and retaining culturally appropriate mental health workers to support Aboriginal people.
It was identified as a need during the filming of Bus of Hope, a documentary that followed a group of people from Leonora as they embarked on a journey to Alice Springs, sharing their personal stories of how suicide has impacted their lives and their tight-knit community.

Leonora Woman’s groupfirst event for 2019!
over 3 years agoHope Community Services facilitated its first woman’s group for 2019 this week thanks to Norma Heaton and Nadia Aly. The ladies requested “spices” as the theme and wanted to learn how to cook with different spices. The ladies prepared the food under guidance from Nadia and a fabulous meal was served.
The Group will be held every fortnight on a Monday at Meedac and all ladies are welcome to join in. The theme will change every fortnight – This is a great opportunity to have a yarn and catch up friends and enjoy different themes chosen by the ladies.

Additional funding for Kalgoorlie-Boulder Local Drug Action Group
over 3 years agoThe Kalgoorlie-Boulder Local Drug Action Group (KBLDAG) is happy to announce it has received $13,000 of additional funding from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation to reduce the negative impact of alcohol on health, relationships and communities in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Coolgardie and Kambalda.
The funding will help support the implementation of the recently endorsed Alcohol and Other Drug Management Plan 2018-2021, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Coolgardie and Kambalda (The Plan).
The Plan focuses on increasing knowledge of evidence informed strategies to reduce alcohol consumption and increasing opportunities for community members to participate in healthy alcohol free events. It will also be focusing on developing actions... Continue reading

Children ‘s Week – Hammond Park Kalgoorlie 2018
over 3 years agoWA Primary Health Alliance’s attended the Children’s week in Kalgoorlie at Hammond Park to promote My Health Record, Immunisation and services funded by WA Primary Health Alliance in the Goldfields. The event was supported by Kalgoorlie-Boulder Early Years Strategy Group and organisations who provide services to children and young people in the Goldfields.

Late last year, WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) conducted a Youth Forum in Leonora, Northern Goldfields. The youth came together with service providers, community members (including Elders) and community agencies to identify needs in the region regarding youth mental health and develop a greater understanding of what was needed in the community.

Bus of Hope documentary
almost 4 years agoAhead of World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September 2016, WA Primary Health Alliance launched Bus of Hope in partnership with Lifeline WA.
