    CHCAGE005 Provide support to people living with dementia

    Build your team’s expertise with this fully funded, nationally accredited course, which is designed for aged care, healthcare and disability workers. Staff can choose a mode of learning that works for their needs. We offer learning face-to-face, online via our virtual classroom – or a combination of both.

    Unlike traditional webinars, our virtual classrooms are interactive allowing for active participation. They can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, using a desktop PC, laptop or tablet device. Education can be delivered across multiple sites and locations while maintaining social distancing.

    This course offers skills and strategies to help with communication, planning, developing activities and understanding changed behaviour in people living with dementia.

    Learn about:

    • person-centred care
    • the nature of dementia
    • effective communication
    • impact of dementia
    • activities for engagement
    • identifying elder abuse and restrictive practises
    • understanding changed behaviour and developing effective responses

  • Meaningful Spaces Virtual Reality Workshop - Albany - February 23rd to 25th

    Meaningful Spaces workshops use a highly engaging and immersive virtual reality experience to develop participants’ understanding of the effects of dementia on people who live with the condition.

    In these half- day workshops, participants will explore the principles of environmental design and medication management in supporting people experiencing changed behaviour and psychological symptoms of dementia. By building empathy, knowledge and skills among participants, they can provide better care for people living with dementia.

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
    This workshop has been developed for all healthcare professionals involved in providing care for people living with dementia, including nurses, medical practitioners and allied health. Whilst he virtual reality scenarios are based in residential care, the principles apply across all care settings.

    WHEN/WHERE:
    Workshops will be held throughout February 2021 in Perth, Geraldton and Albany.

    COST:
    • $165 per person
    • Discount for private group sessions ($150pp, 8 attendees)

    REGISTRATION INCLUDES:
    • Comprehensive course notes
    • Use of an individual virtual reality system throughout the workshop

    Accompanying the release of the Commission’s Outbreak Management Planning guidance, we recently hosted a webinar on this topic that was open to all residential aged care services providers. The webinar, which can be viewed here, provided an overview of the resource and also addressed some of the lessons learned by the Commission and providers who experienced a COVID-19 outbreak at their residential service.

    The Commission has also produced a video for providers to support their workers, care recipients, families and visitors to prevent, prepare for and manage outbreaks of COVID-19, which can be viewed via our website.

  • New MBS items for Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACFs)

    From 10 December 2020 until 30 June 2022, new Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items are available for care recipients in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). There are a range of items now available for General Practitioners and allied health professionals who provide care in RACFs for mental health, chronic disease management and physical therapy.
