  • Aboriginal Cancer Education Video - Cancer Council WA

    The aim of this video is to reduce cancer deaths by increasing knowledge and behaviour change in cancer prevention, screening, early detection and treatment. It will be a useful tool for health professionals who work with Aboriginal people to help educate their clients on how to prevent cancer and find it early. The resource includes a ‘Yarning guide’ to assist with providing further information to clients and build health professional’s confidence around cancer issues.

  • Homelessness Awareness Day: Esperance

    On Thursday 9th August, Esperance Crisis Accommodation Service held an Open Day at Lachie House in Esperance to promote Homelessness Week. Lachie House provides crisis accommodation for families, single men, and women homeless or at risk of homelessness. Esperance Crisis Accommodation Service also provides accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

    WA Primary Health Alliance along with other community service providers, including CentreCare, Hope Community Service, Escare. Esperance Care Services and Bay of Isles Community Outreach provided displays and were available to offer information on their services to community members.

  • Home Renal Dialysis Northern Goldfields Project – Removing Barriers!

    WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) has commissioned a short-term project with HOPE Community Services to investigate and identify barriers that may impede remote regional community members accessing home dialysis on Country. The project is called ‘Wilja Dialysis ITC Project 2018’ – Wilja means home in Wangkatja language.

    The primary focus is on Aboriginal clients in remote communities with a need to start dialysis treatment. The aim is to keep these clients in their home community while accessing treatment for renal failure.   • Tele-Geriatrics is coming to Esperance

    Telehealth geriatric esperance

    Older people living in Esperance will now be able to access geriatric health services without having to leave Esperance.

    WA Primary Health Alliance has partnered with the WA Country Health Service Aged Care Directorate to deliver a tele-geriatric program, connecting older people with a gerontologist via videoconference.

    Providing healthcare for older people requires holistic assessment and care, and a consultant geriatrician can now use telehealth to provide geriatric management including diagnosis, medications and cognitive and functional status.

    My Health Record (MyHR) statewide team; Rose Teuma (My Health Record Trainer) and Melissa Robinson (Community Engagement Officer) visited Kalgoorlie and the Northern Goldfields from the 2nd June – 7th June and launched MyHR campaign in collaboration with the Goldfields staff.They visited Kalgoorlie, Leonora, and Kambalda where they consulted with both community and health professionals including visits to all pharmacist in the region.     The My HR State Wide team in collaboration with the Place Base Goldfields team, launched the My Health Record campaign at the Leonora Golden Gift this past WA Day long weekend, 02-04 June 2018.

    Leonora, located 234km from Kalgoorlie, was celebrating its 16th Golden Gift event which features the iconic Elite Mile, Australia’s richest mile running race along the dusty main street of the town.   • Enhancing Medical Services in the Goldfields

    WAPHA’s Goldfields Team recently attended the official opening of the $1.1million expansion of one of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s largest private medical practices.

    Plaza Medical Centre owner and GP Kylie Sterry secured co-funding amount of $300k from the Department of Health; Rural General Practice Grants Program for their new building.

    It includes an additional eight rooms, a larger treatment for supervised procedures that will provide more training opportunities for GP registrars and medical students and dedicated rooms for psychologist/counselling, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

    Goldfields Regional Manager Tralee Cable said events held in Esperance and Kalgoorlie were aimed at building collaboration between General Practice, WAPHA, new service providers and primary care stakeholders.

  • Australia Day Esperance 2018

    Beautiful weather provided a great opportunity for the people of Esperance to celebrate Australia Day. Festivities kicked off with the annual 2.5km open-water swim. The event also featured live performances by local musicians, a citizenship ceremony and presentation of the Australia Day awards. With over 50 market stall there was many fun family activities on offer.

    This year the entire Goldfields Team of Tralee, Lucy and Sarah and Rae attended and manned the WA Primary health Alliance stand.
