Elder Abuse Recognition and Response in Older Adults

Join Injury Matters and Advocare for the Elder abuse recognition and response in older adults workshops in Geraldton.

Elder abuse is a serious public health issue in older adults in WA. Elder abuse can have ongoing health impacts on an individual, such as physical injury, poor mental health and increased risk of placement in residential aged care. It is vital that health and community professionals working with older adults in WA carry the skills to recognise and respond to elder abuse to ensure the safety of their clients.

This workshop will explore:

  • Elder abuse and its impact on older adults
  • How to recognise and respond to elder abuse
  • Options for clients experiencing elder abuse
  • Elder abuse policy and procedure for organisations
  • Advocare, and how they can assist you 

This workshop is for anyone working with older adults, including home care service providers, carers and support workers, community workers and health and allied health professionals.

Sometimes losing someone or something can give us an overwhelming sense of sadness. If you're experiencing pain and hurt and want help to get through the Christmas season, you're invited to join this workshop facilitated by Centacare.

This workshop can assist you to manage and understand the effects of significant change in your life. Aimed at increasing your understanding in change, loss and grief, and help to identify reactions and dimensions of grief.

This 12-hour (two day) Standard Mental Health First Aid course is for any interested adult.

You will learn how to assist an adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

Regional Mental Health Forum Geraldton

The WA Association of Mental Health (WAAMH) are undertaking a project in the Midwest, Wheatbelt and South West regions to better understand the need for formal and informal community mental health supports in regional WA.

They're keen to identify community driven mental health support initiatives being implemented and understand what else is needed to improve and strengthen mental health support in rural and remote areas.

Local residents, service providers and people with lived experience and invited to attend the forum to assist in gathering information.

What's new with Naloxone?

A professional development video conference hosted by the Mental Health Commission for human service providers working with clients who use alcohol and other drugs (AOD).

Naloxone is a medicine that reverses opioid overdose. This VC will provide you with an update on the latest information about naloxone, including its availability, new formulations and current naloxone projects in WA.
It will also discuss how services can facilitate access to naloxone for their clients.
